Filters and tags - moving to IJ - requests
Okay, not cross-posting this one because I don't have Semagic on this computer ... and I'm lazy. Also, I'm pretty much moving to IJ, so although I'll keep cross-posting some things, there will be a lot that I post only here, I'm guessing.

Re: what I will post here, I'm trying to get some of my filters set up at IJ. If you'd like to be on my filters for real life updates and/or picspam, please let me know ... it will make it a lot easier for me if I have everyone's name in one place. :)

Re: posting entirely here, I need to get my tags set up again, and fix broken links, and whatnot. Oh, the joy ... but I feel as though my tags at LJ were rather scattered and eccentric, so if anyone can suggest a good system of tagging fic, I'd be grateful.

I will be on LJ somewhat through the rest of the month though, there are some prompts that I have to finish out and etc. I will mostly be checking the flist here, though ... keeping up with 3 flists is too much. If you're intending to post mostly elsewhere, would you be kind enough to let me know so that I know where to follow your posts?

And one last request - please go here or here (GJ) and submit prompts for the [info]phoenix_flies fic fest.

*hugs* Am sorry that I'm behind again on reading the flist and responding to comments, but hopefully I'll catch up this weekend ... and I'm behind on writing, too. Will post more later, I promise - including some fic. :)

More Links
Probably everyone has seen these, but just on the off-chance that you haven't:

On Linking to offsite content in LJ

[info]amanuensis1's Watership Down Analogy

Information on how to make your GJ look like your LJ ... and if anyone knows how to do something similar with IJ, please let me know?

[info]squeaky on IJ, here, saying that IJ is not affiliated with LJ, and if you scroll down - he says that he will find other advertising rather than bow to advertiser's restrictions on content (speaking specifically about Google ads, that is) ... also info in comments about how the site will deal with actual offenders.

He said: "If they are obviously breaking the law, a law enforcement agency willbe contacted and appropriate legal steps will be taken. From there I will cooperate fully with law enforcement on how they would choose todeal with the situation." and "But we feel it is better for the authorities to handle these people. I do not have law enforcement or legal training and I would prefer to letthose who do take care of such issues." ... and I fell a little bit more in love with IJ.

IJ has also increased the # of friends that a free account can have to 250. If we all glomp over there ... accounts there are reasonably-priced and it would be great if we could help him out. Not very nice to just barge in and crash his severs, you know?

And ... I know nothing about computers, but as I understand it, this will let you transfer comms as well as journals. If you have a Mac. Or if you have Windows with something called python on it. (To the best of my knowledge, I do not have any snakes on my computer, nor do I necessarily support the idea of putting snakes and electronics in close proximity. Just in case you were wondering.)

I'm feeling pretty good about this by now, guys - yes, it's definitely going to suck short-term, but I think that we can do it and make it work. [info]crucio_4_coffee and I have been talking about some sort of fest on GJ to encourage people to move over there ... anyone interested? Keep your eyes open for more details, I can't wait to get away from the stress and insanity and back into the fun part of fandom. :)

Links
A by-no-means-exhaustive collection of links that I have found interesting/useful/worth reading/important/etc today (yes, when I should have been doing real, productive work, damnit):

[info]femmequixotic's open letter to LJ/6A

resources for moving your journal, etc

[info]solarbird posts the answer to her question

From GJ, a post about LJ's tolerance of "Bible-based" child abuse communities

The terrible secret of LJ

I am sure there are things that I've missed - please, please, link me if you've read anything else relevant ... or anything irrelevant, really. Fandom is Not Fun right now ... so anyone who links to a good fic gets extra triple-chocolate-chip brownie points. :D

As things stand now - I'm not happy with LJ, obviously, and not happy about posting in this atmosphere. When I post fic, I will probably x-post it to IJ and GJ, and leave a link to it here ... I don't intend to fully leave LJ yet, although I may in the future. For the time being, my account is still paid and there are a few communities that I've been following here that I would hate to miss.

Help?
Everything is backed-up to GJ and IJ, but I can't seem to make Semagic work ... it works with LJ and GJ, but it doesn't seem to like IJ. It gives me odd error messages, and I don't know what to do! Does anyone know how to sweet-talk it?

I'll write you a ficlet ... :)

ETA: Actually, it updates to LJ and either GJ or IJ, whichever I'm signed into. I'mc onfused ...

Well, that was easy
I'd been dreading the tedium of going through all the entries that I flocked during Strikethrough, and then I found this LJ Sec thing, which makes it much easier. You download and install the program, log in, and it gives you a whole list of all your entries and you can select them and change the security setting en masse. I haven't gone through it in detail yet - I'm running off in a second to the conference - but it looks like it might have missed a few. Still, it took me about ten minutes to change 100+ entries so I'm not complaining!

According to this post, you can also use it to back up all your journal entries on another server like GJ or IJ or whatever. I haven't tried it yet but I might - sometime when it won't eat up the poor server, yeah?

Okay, I'm late and I need to hurry to get there before the coffee and continental breakfast are gone!

Things to Remember
1. Chocolate may not make things better, but it makes you feel better - this goes double for chocolate martinis, but only if you're old enough to drink them legally. :)

2. *hugs* to everyone who is distressed or for any other reason needs a hug.

3. This journal is f-locked for now - I'm more than happy to add anyone who is of age.

4. Am playing catch-up with the birthday ficlets this week, but as soon as I've cleared my to-do list to something managable ... am writing something fun and very much pwp, just because.

5. *points up at 1 and 2* :) Yes, this is terrible, but it isn't the end of the world, okay? Let's stay calm and support each other, and things will work out, I'm sure!
